NM Streaker Tops Mt. Top Trials
New Mexico Streaker Leads Productive
Mountain Top Trial at Ruidoso Downs
RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (June 4, 2010) – The Mike Joiner-trained fastest-qualifier New Mexico Streaker led four qualifying horses from his trial into the $254,353 Mountain Top Futurity on Friday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.
The horses with the 10-fastest times from the six 350-yard trials for New Mexico-breds return to race for the $122,089 first-place check on June 20.
New Mexico Streaker posted a :17.666 time while winning the first trial and that time held up as the quickest time through the five subsequent trials. Champion jockey G.R. Carter Jr. was up for the neck victory.
The gelding by Brookstone Bay showed promise after winning his only other career start. He raced to a neck win in a $22,000 maiden race at Sunland Park on March 10.
Also qualifying from that trial were second-fastest qualifier Strait Away Fame, third-fastest qualifier Oh Classy Corona and sixth-fastest qualifier Merryvale.
Strait Away Fame was a troubled eighth-place finisher in his only other start, Oh Classy Corona made his career debut in the Mountain Top trials and Merryvale was the third-place finisher in the New Mexico Spring Fling Futurity.
Trainer Blane Wood had an excellent afternoon, placing three horses in the Mountain Top Futurity. His qualifiers are trial winners
Reckless Lane, Brooksy and Little Bit Of Corona.
Reckless Lane won by one-half length with the co-fourth-fastest time of :17.763. It was his first win after a pair of second-place runs at Sunland Park.
Brooksy won her first start in the trials by one-half length and shared the fourth-fastest qualifying time of :17.763 with her stablemate
Reckless Lane.
Little Bit of Corona made his career debut in the trials and showed promise with a one-length win with the seventh-fastest time of :17.775.
