Streak Of Sixes Fastest To Zia Futurity

Peter and Marjorie Gallegos’ Streak of Sixes is set up for her third futurity win after rolling to a one-half-length victory her trial to the $351,963 Zia Futurity for New Mexico-breds on Thursday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.
Streak Of Sixes topped the qualifiers with a :19.757 time for the 400 yards.
The 10-fastest qualifiers from the nine trials return to race in the Zia Futurity on August 1. The Zia Futurity is the richest race on the stakes-filled Zia Festival program celebrating New Mexico-bred racing. The total purses should exceed $1,000,000 during the Zia Festival card.
Streak of Sixes broke towards the outside fence from the outside post position at the start of her trial and raced down the rail. The Tony Guymon-piloted miss was still able to race to the trial win. She also broke out in her Mountain Top Futurity trial and that led to her sole career defeat, a third-place finish.
The Juan Gonzalez-trained Streak Of Sixes, a $9,000 Ruidoso Yearling Sale purchase, has earned $278,000 with five wins from her six starts. The Sixes Royal filly won the $284,000 New Mexican Spring Futurity at Sunland Park and dominated the $254,000 Mountain Top Futurity at Ruidoso Downs by one-and-one-half lengths.
Streak Of Sixes is also the top New Mexico-bred prospect for the Grade 1, $2,000,000 All American Futurity. She is one of the individual betting interests in the All American Future Wager being offered through Sunday at wagering outlets nationally. See www.aafuturebet.com.
Ron Hanna and Ed Johnson Jr.’s Elegante, who finished second behind Streak Of Sixes, is the second-fastest qualifier with a :19.828 time. The $67,000 Ruidoso Sale purchase was making his second start after finishing fourth in his career debut.
Trainer Gonzalez and jockey Guymon also placed Moro Moon and A Streak Again in the Zia Futurity.
Moro Moon, also by Sixes Royal, won the first trial to take her maiden in her third career start. She was timed in :19.932 for the head victory.
A Streak Again was the second-place finisher in the third trial. It was his best finish from five outs.
